Honda: Honda Help, honda civic, timing belt

Question
Hello, I don't know if you can help me or not, but my mother and I are about to buy a car and I have talked her into buying me a Honda Civic.  Now, the dealer has told us that the timing belt must be replaced at 90,000 miles.  I don't know where my mom got the price, but she seems to think this will cost around $1000.  Any clues?  I didn't ask the dealers and I don't have a clue.  Any help would be appreciated.  Oh, and it is a 97 Civic.

Answer
Yeah, you have really got to change the belt every 90,000 miles. If not, and it pops, you can say goodbye to your engine. As for the price, that is outrageous. A timing belt at the dealership installed is about $250. The belt itself is about $45. Hope i helped.
