Mercedes: climate control ec button, climate control, blower fan

Question
I just bought a 1998 S320 and am very happy with it but i cannot seem to get the ec button on the climate control to turn off, could it be that it needs the a/c topped up?? any suggestions?

Answer
Mike,
Here is a cross conversation from benzworld web site regarding your issue.

Give the proposed solution a try and let me know if it works.

Or as our friends from south of the border say, "Bastardo!" lol I love that word..

ANYWAY, my EC Button on my Climate Control refuses to go off....the light just stays on and the AC can't turn on as a result. So, I pulled the fuse to the AC blower fan, cleaned it and stuck it back in.

When I started the car back up, the EC button would now go off, but come back on after a few moments. After several times of hitting it and swearing, it finally stayed off and the AC cooled me down.

But then it happened again after I shut the car off.

WTF is going on? I held down the REST button and it gave me a bunch of codes...what do they mean?

That's something i've had to live with since i got my car. By now, I am just used to resetting the climate control by turning the key to position 2 (when all the light on the instrument cluster come on) wit like1.5 seconds, then turn the ke to position 0, wait like 1 second, and the turn the car on. Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks man, I'll give that a shot during lunch today. So, 2, then 0, then it should go on, eh? Sounds good.

I wonder if I'm low on freon or something...I rarely use the AC, but it is a 99 and has never been changed.

Actually, I was told that once i re-charged my freon the EC light would go away... hasn't happened to mine.. Let me know if you get it re-charged and yours goes away.

About the above procedure, once you have turned the car on, the blower/fan must be on before you can turn the ec light off.

Just a wild guess, but check the a/c belt, could be slipping.

Good Luck
