Question
QUESTION: "my wife washed my ML320 cdi 06 smart key do i have to get new from merc dealer or is there a cheaper way.

ANSWER: Tucker,
I know of no aftermarket suppliers for these keys. However, you may be able to remove the battery and use a blow dryer to dry out the key.
Replace the battery with a fresh new battery.
If that fails you may be able to have the dealer check our your key to make sure it is in fact dead.
If it proves to be dead you are looking at very substantial money to have it replaced. The dealer will require proof of ownership. Title to the vehicle with the Vehicle Identification Number. The actual owner must be the person to pick up the key. These are security measures.
I would phone the dealer regarding the exact information you need to bring to get the key.
Sorry for your problem.
Good Luck and let us know how it turns out.

Does anyone know where I can find out more information about the Smart Key for a 2001 E320?
My owners manual shows one that has a battery (mine has no battery) and limited information about it. Also, the dealer does not know that much either. Question is, does this Smart Key have the same program features as the 'C' class? When I unlock my car with my key, all doors are unlocked. When my wife uses her key, only the driver's door unlocks. Can I program the seats and temperature with this key?
Thanks,

There has to be a battery in the key.
And it's up to you how you program the individual keys, either having all doors opened or just the driver's door. When I called MB, I was told that only the C class have the key linked to the computer to access the seat memory and temperature. By the way, if you press both the red and blue arrows together, you'll jump to 72F or 22C regardless.

If you remove the mechanical key (metal) and use it to poke sideways into the Smart Key, that should allow you to open the battery bay. There are 2 batteries CR2032 that I personally recommend replacing every 4-6 months of use. To open all door locks in one press of a button, press the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously for about 5-6 seconds. The light will flash and that should set your unlock feature in the GLOBAL mode. To revert back to a driver door only unlock, just do the same process again.

Also, you can roll your windows down by pressing the trunk and unlock buttons together. To roll up your windows, press the trunk and lock buttons together. This feature is handy to open/close your windows, if you do not have direct sight of the IR receivers on the door handles.

I believe my new E-Class has also got the same smart key.Appreciate if you could explain a little bit more in detail what you'd have to do after removing the manual (metal) key. You mentioned to 'poke sideways into the smartkey'. Can you please elaborate. Thanks. I notice that there is a catch hidden in the slot where the metal key sits. Is this the catch that needs to be depressed?

Actually the difference between your key and your wife's key , as for how they are working is simple. If you go back to owner's manual, it should shows you how to make some clicks and make the key 'GLOBAL Key' what it is, that it will let you toggle between all doors mode and one door mode. By default one key each come for each way.

My problem is how to get the key from another car reprogrammed to mine.... Any dealer names anyone?

now to answer your Q... slide the switch on top and pop out the metal key.
It then leave a whole, now hold the metal key at 90 degrees, (perpendicular to its slot. Right below the top edge, you will see a little slot to poke.. If you notice your metal key tip is like a slot just at the end. that slot will go into and let you press into your remote fob, though MB recommends not to 'pry' you gotta do a little jiggle and pry out . CAUTION: work on a bed or some area where you can catch every thing that comes out. Mine came out with 2 batteries and a metal clip , and a black frame holding the assembly of batteries.

Enough detail, I suppose?
