Mercedes: my mercedes wont start, head bolts, drive shaft

Question
pulled up in the yard one evening in my mercedes 1989 420sel running fine before i turned it off, went to get back in it and it would not start turns over, has fire, getting gas and it won't start even after purchasing new coil, and battery. It turns over with a slow drag can anyone help please.

Answer
Sounds like a starter issue. Loose ground or bad amateur bearing or starter brushes. A high resistance within the starter motor creates lots of heat. YOu should clean all the ground straps to make sure your are getting maximum voltage to the starter.
Have you notices any unusual noise during the start cycle prior to the stoppage?
I have to replace the starter on my 86 420sel and it was quite the chore.
I had to drop the stearing linkage. Because it uses allen head bolts, and there is no way to insert a wrench to remove them, I had to use three long extensions and go from near the drive shaft up by the transmission to reach the top bolt.
Mercedses wanted huge money for a rebuilt even the parts store was over 125.00.
I have a guy here in my town who specializes in alternator/ starter repair. This is a Bosch unit and he rebuilt the starter for about 55.00.
It works well now.
Good Luck
