Nissan: Nissan running funny, air intake hose, nissan altima

Question
I am female and alone and a lot of mechanics take me for a ride because of my lack of knowing.......so I thought I would research what the problem could be before I take it to someone.  My car Nissan Altima (2000) I bought used and have never had a tune up.  I get the oil changed, but that is abou it. Anyhoo, Every time the vehicle comes to a resting spot such as a red light or stop sign, it begins to pulse like it is trying to die out on me.  It never dies, it just constantly pulses.  When it is time for me to go or as long as I am on the gas it runs fine!!  Can you tell me what this could be?

Answer
HMM. A surge in idle is usually caused by an intake leak of some sort. Could be a vacumm hose or air intake hose. Those cars also have leaking intake gaskets, very common. Good advice: Always get a second opinion on any major repair. I agree that there are a lot of crooked shops out there. Lack of knowledge will also cost you. YOur on the right track, do your homework and ask a lot of questions.
