Saab: 1995 900S 2.3L , stick, non-turbo, clutch disk, clutch cable

Question
In the beginning I couldn't put the car in reverse, heard grinding, but while trying to drive forward, while in 1st, I had to play with the clutch to get the car to move . Once the engine reved up, the car would go and the other gears were fine.

The car sit for ten days and now the car will go into reverse,no grinding and backup with no problem, but when put in first the car goes, but maybe 2mph. I even tried to make the car stall, by having the car moving in 1st and then pressing the brakes. The car stops moving, but does not stall.

Some have said it's the clutch that needs repair, some have said it the clutch cable that's loose. Does this sound like anything you've heard of before? because I have no idea what's wrong, I just don't want to get ripped off by the local mechanic around where I live, don't too many people here where I live drive Saabs.

Thanks for any help!!!

Answer
Reece:

Sounds like the clutch disk/pressure plate is "gone". Unfortunately, it sounds like "more" than just the cable(Since my personal in depth experience is limited to earlier 99's and 900's, I am not even sure if there is a cable since SAABS traditionally used hydraulics. Anyway, consider a new clutch (ouch, lotsa $$)
It would pay to shop around though, to see if you can get the best deal.
                  Hope this helps,
