Volkswagen: poor performance, fuel pressure regulator, vw cabriolet

Question
My '91 VW Cabriolet runs fine until it reaches normal temperature then it acts as if it isn't getting enough fuel. Spits, sputters, and has to be prayed over to grt anywhere. WHY??

Answer
Hard to say, however I would focus on fuel delivery.  Perhaps the fuel pump is getting weak, causing vapor lock once the engine gets hot enough to heat up the fuel lines.  The fuel pressure regulator and the fuel pump check valve is also a possibility.  A good shop should be able to easily test the output pressure.
