Volkswagen: 79 VW Beetle Speedometer, speedometer, speedo

Speedometer quit working. I replaced the speedometer cables. Speedometer works but I still have a high sounding whirring noise that gets louder the faster I go. A mechanic told me to grease the egr box. Did that, still have whirring noise. Mechanic told me to grease the speedometer. How do I get the speedometer out?

Hi Susan,

If you go behind the dashboard, unplug the wires that go to the speedo, and remove all of the wires.

(make sure you know where they go, and the battery is disconnected)

Gently push the speedometer, it comes out through the front and is not held on by anything.
