Volvo: 850 woes, crank sensor, lab scope

Question
Hi, I just recently purchased an 850 turbo in immaculate conditions, with a dead miss in #2 cylinder. I eventually found the problem to be a cracked exhaust valve. Removed head and sent to machine shop, installed head along with a timing belt kit which included water pump and other related items. I assembled the engine,go to start ......it cranks but will not fire. I hear the fuel pump go on,I am not getting spark from coil. I would like to know how I can test the coil, cam sensor and any other components that yopu might think could cause this condition.I have a Haynes manual but it does not really give me that kind of info. I want to add that I found out afterwards, when I performed the compression test I did NOT disconnect wires on coil. I have power on the two posts with the key on and when cranking. The way I am thinking ,the coil might be damaged but I do not want to change parts and guess the problem. I want to find out where the problem is and correct it.  Please, if you can help me in any way I would deeply appreciate it .Thank You Giuseppe

Answer
Giuseppe,
Check for fault codes follow those. Take a lab scope reading of the cam sensor and the crank sensor. Are all the ground wires in place and tight? Could the cap and rotor be old and worn? See if you can obtain access to any known good sensors and coil?
