Volvo: 1999 Volvo S70 Base Sedan W/all options, s70 base, 1999 volvo s70

Question
OK I have a few questions if that is ok.  1) Is the odometer and time suppose to stay lit at all times even when the car is off? I ask this because I bought it 6 weeks ago and it has run beautifully and then I go out one afternoon and it doesn't start. Lights internally come on but it will not turn over. Had to jump it and rev the other car for a minute or two to keep the volvo running on it's own.  Has started ever since.  I am totally at a loss.  2) I see that there is an alarm thingy on the dash by the windshiels but it doesn't light even when the car is locked. Am I not doing something right or is something wrong??  Thank you in advance.

Answer
Luci,
I have seen many problems in the dash cluster. Now the cars that I see when the ignition is off the odometer and time go blank, so if I want to see the mileage on the car I need to turn on the key.
Why the car would not start is a guess. Have the battery and charging system tested to make sure they are working with in spec.
I have seen a number of cars that have a remote, but not an alarm function. The dealer should be able to look at your car and tell if it has the alarm. You might look in the manual to see if it shows the alarm.
