Volvo: blowing fuses, fuse box, turn signals

Question
Thanks so much for getting back to me. Also could you possible answer this for me. Upon starting the car it's a little slow at starting. Could that be due to a weak battery? Also should I have the engine checked because the check engine light comes on but will not go off. I thought maybe it's stuck as I had a car that the light was just stuck.

-----Question-----
I have a 1989 740 volvo gl. The turn signals and the power windows aren't working due to the fuse keeps blowing. Could you tell me what might be the problem. I was told that the wires need to be traced because it sounds like a short. Once you get to the fuse box which way does the wires go.
-----Answer-----
Rhonda,
It is very likely that there is a short somewhere and that the wires will need to be be traced. The wires all go to a large group of wires and go toward the left side before going there separate ways. Not real easy to follow them. Get to the fuse box and separate the two circuits and see which one blows the fuse, signals or windows.

Answer
Rhonda,
If the battery is weak the engine will turn over slower than normal, so that may be the place to begin, having the battery tested.
The check engine light will usually stay on if there is a fault in the system. If the car is running well and there are no other symtoms, you may choose to ignore the light.
