It has been determined from a diagnosis, and based on some symptoms, that the ABS control unit S70 is the problem.  I was told by Volvo repair that this part needs to be replaced.  Very expensive.  Also, that because it is not working properly, and until it is replaced, that they cannot determine if anything else is wrong.  Concerned about spending any more money. 77,000 miles on the VOlvo.  Can I find a rebuilt one?
I was also told that the only problem that I will experience for the time being is that my anti-lock skid breaks will not work if I go into a skid.  Or that the light can come back on.  But Until I have to do the Smog check, (at which time because of the problem that it won't pass) that I am ok.  So deciding, do I sell the car, or maybe find a rebuilt part, cheaper repair place, but then the diagnosis continues. and could be other things wrong.  Its a non turbo.  Also, what is the difference between the ABS control unit only as oppposed to the ABS control unit with stability and traction?
Thank you very much.

Answer -
yes try to find one online maybe, 99 is an old car though, 77,000 is not a lot of miles for a volvo, stability and traction has other sensors that detect sideways motion , the computer can stop you from accelerating without you realizing it, (theres a special device on the cable for the gas pedal)and can also brake selected wheels also, but you must get the one that goes with your car ,

I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER SHOP THAT SAID THEY WOULD NOT INSTALL A PART THAT I BROUGHT IN IF I PURCHASED IT MYSELF, BECAUSE THEY CANNOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF SOMETHING WENT WRONG.  AND THEY CANNOT VOUCH FOR IT.  SO I THINK IT MAY BE A PROBLEM TO FIND SOMEONE TO INSTLALL IT EVEN IF I FIND ONE ON THE INTERNET. I FOUND A GUY WHO REBUILDS THEM, MAILING THEM IN TO HIM WITH INSURANCE AND THEN REPAIRING THEM, FOR $140.00 ... WHICH SOUNDS GREAT....i'M SURE THAT IT POSSIBLE.   EVEN THE REPAIR SHOP SAYS THAT THE PARTS THEY GET ARE REBUILT/REPAIRED PARTS.
ANY SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO APPROACH A MECHANIC FOR INSTALLATION PURPOSES ONLY IF I WERE SUCCESSFUL IN GETTING MINE REPAIRED OR REPLACED USED.

Answer
keep trying to find a mechanic, thats a bunch of bull about the other mechanic , they like to mark up parts 100 -300 percent, so they get mad when you bring in your own
( they might get a ball joint for 25.00 and on your bill it will say $90.00).....etc.
