4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: truck stuck in 4 hi, chevy s10, dissasemble

hi i have a '97 chevy s10 my wife drove the truck in 4 hi for about 20 miles black smoke comes out of the pipes and i can't get it to come out of 4 hi now what can i do to fix it

You need to keep working with it and push the 2 hi button and back up a lot to unwind the front end. The fronat axle has binded up and is holding torque on the axles so it won't shift. backing up a good bit is all that will help you other than a dissasemble of the 4 wheel drive components
