4 Wheel Drive/SUVs: air conditiong problem, chevy blazer, happy fathers day

QUESTION: hi matt ! i have a 98 chevy blazer, 4 wheel drive, 6 cyl.  this year it started to blow out hot air and since i do alot of animal rescue work i need the a.c to be working ot keep them cool when tansporting to and from veterinarian etc.  any suggestons? thanks sooooo much if you can help me !!  have a grrrrreat summer !!

ANSWER: Donna,

sounds like the freon is low, You can buy everything to repair this at yu local auto parts store to fix it but there is a specific process. they can tell you how at the store. Try this and see if it works

QUESTION: thanks matt, i did put freon in already and sounds like it is "kickin in" so i hav e no idea waht to do......there is no leak (supposedly) any other ideas?  thanks matt

ANSWER: Donna, how much did you put in? they typically hold around 3-4 pounds (2-3 cans of freon) If it is trying to work now, I think you may need more put in just dont put too much as this will cause internal damage to the A/C compressor

QUESTION: wow, thanks for getting back so fast matt........yes, put in 2 of the small cans........even when i have everything off hot air blows out, could something not be "opening up"?  thanks sooooo much for tryng to help me, the 2 dogs in the truck yesterday had their heads hanging out the window drooling !!

There could be a diverter door not opening under the dash causing the problem. they work off of vacume from the engine so of there is no vacume they won't open or they could just be simply stuck open letting heat in and not air. You can pull the covers off under the dash to investigate just take your time and check them all
