Jeep: 96 Jeep rear wiper arm removal, rubber mallet, arm assembly

Question
I need to replace the wiper motor on my jeep, but am struggling with the removal of the arm. Is there a tool or special way to remove the arm?

Answer
Hi Jerry,

Actually, there should be a flip up cover that exposes a 13mm nut holding the arm to the shaft -- remove that first. Then, the best way to remove the rear wiper arm is to angle the arm straight out (pointing at you), at 90 degrees from the mounting point, where its' at rest in a 'service position' (almost like you were pulling the arm away to clean the glass or change the blade). Then, grab the arm, and rock it back and forth, perpendicular to its hinge. It should come off rather easily this way. Taking it off with the arm in its regular position is near impossible, as you have surmised ;)

If it still won't budge, then you can hit it with a bit of CRC (or other penetrating oil), and allow it to soak. It might even need a tap or two to free up with a rubber mallet or deadblow. The dealer sells the arm assembly if things get out of hand, for around $30. Good luck!
