Suzuki: Suzuki UZ50 Problem, suzuki samurai, spray nozzle

Question
Hi,
I have a 2008 Suzuki UZ50 which I have never had problems with before but for some reason, lately it has been taking longer to start up than usual if it starts at all. My boyfriend said that it might be the spark plug so he took it out and replaced it but it is still doing the same thing. I use to to get around Wellington, NZ to get to uni and work and before now it has been wonderful. Any advice you have would be fantastic.
Thank you :)

Answer
There are a couple of possibilities.
It's fuel injected, so it's possible that the spray nozzle (injector) could be dirty.
A classic symptom would be that it starts hard, and runs poorly until it has run for 3-5 minutes.
A dirty injector has a spray pattern that does not make a fine enough mist for a cold mixture to be readily ignited by the spark plug.
You can try adding an injector cleaner.
Another possibility is that perhaps the fuel filter is dirty or partially clogged.
Usually, service manuals are available, and since you're a student, that would be much like learning from another textbook.
Admittedly, there is theory to learn, but it's not that complex - It's worth a try - if you learn, then you would be your own mechanic.
Ask again if you have more questions.
While I've never worked on a uz50, I've had motorcycles and currently have a Honda VFR800 a VTR250 and a 1966 Suzuki 250 x-6.
I live in the Colorado mountains and have a Suzuki Samurai (my area of expertise) which I use on the old mining roads, some of which reach altitudes of 4 kilometers, although 3.8k is more common.
I hope this was helpful.
