Suzuki: too much oil, main bearings, dipsticks

Question
hey scotty,
500 miles ago i changed my oil, started the car up, said "wow, i didn't add enough", topped it off and kept driving it it.  now im thinking, that it was a really dumb thing to do now that i've been reading that you could blow out the main bearings, get oil into the the clutch, and kill the engine.  on the samurai dipsticks theres the two dots, when my enging is cold, 2.5 hours after shutdown, the oil is about 6/10's of a cm above the line, is this enough to cause engine damage?
thanks
Geoff
btw, how'd that window decal go?

Answer
So long as it's not MORE than a quart/liter overfull, no problem.  The tales of blowing out the main bearings, seals, and so on are not based in reality, unless you're talking about a motor with double the correct amount of oil.  In a severe case, the high level could be whipped into froth by the crankshaft, and result in air in the oil, reduced lubrication, and damage to already old and marginal bearings, but on a good, healthy motor, being a quart over is no biggie.
Haven't gotten the decal yet, but it's ordered.  thanks for the info to the site, one of my friend's bosses has always wanted the little boy peeing, and we ordered it for him.  Since HE didn't order it he won't get into more than the normal trouble with his wife.
