Suzuki: 98 suzuki swift, suzuki swift, pressure gauge

Question
I just bought a 98 Suzuki swift with 91000km 1.3, 4 cyl. For my daughter, a few times it did not start right a way and had to try 2 or 3 times. Now the car stopped running on the road and it won't starts. What is the problem, do I need new timing belt? thanks

Answer
To run, a car needs spark, fuel, and the events timed correctly.  You can take the top of the timing belt cover loose, and see if the belt is still turning the cam pulley, but that still doesn't guarantee that the belt hasn't jumped a tooth and is out of time.  It might not have spark, which can be checked by pulling a plug connector, and laying the connector on the engine (DON'T HOLD THE PLUG CONNECTOR!!!), and cranking the motor.  Fuel delivery usually requires a pressure gauge be hooked up.  If you need a repair professional in your region, go to iatn.net, and use the shopfinder on the front page to find a competent professional.
