Suzuki: Oxy sensor moding/fixing..., suzuki vitara, engine control module ecm

Question
i have a 1990 suzuki vitara/escudo/sidekick/etc with the g16a soc motor, and i would like to know if there is a way to "con" the oxy sensor seeing as they are hard to replace where i live or if the easiest option would be to venture out and find somewhere that will sell the proper sensor.. providing that its the problem.. some help would be very much appreciated.

cheers

Answer
The sensor typically generates a .2 to .8 volt signal when hot, and in relationship to the presence of oxygen in the exhaust.  The engine control module (ECM) uses this as one of the primary means of trimming fuel injection quantities to sent a mixture downstream that the converter can effectively work with.  Not coincidentally, it's also the exact best compromise between power and economy, and it functions to compensate for altitude, and air density changes due to temperature variations.  If it isn't working, replace it.  Just connect a voltmeter to it at normal operating temp, and rev the engine while watching the voltage.  It should fluctuate from somewhere between .2 to .8 volts.  A very fast fluctuation is good, slow is marginal.
