Tips on Buying Cars: What should I do?, chevy impala, carfax report

Question
Hello there, I came across a 2001 Chevy Impala priced at $5,995. The Impala is quite nice. The car is a V6 automatic with a lot of extras. The price of the car is so low because of odometer problems. I called the dealership where this car is located, and they told me that the vehicle's mileage is unknown. Should I still consider buying this car, or not? Is there anything anyone can do to find out the mileage on the car? Thank you!!

Answer
Hi Michael,

A CarFax report, or one like it, is your best bet. It might show you when the last time was that accurate mileage was known, and what it was then. Value wise, this car is worth less than any buying guide (kbb.com/edmunds.com/nada.com) would say, simply because it will have little to NO resale value. Anyway, good luck!
