Tips on Buying Cars: cars, dodge neon, safest car

Question
whats the best kind of car for a new driver?

Answer
Hi Shannon,

Thanks for your question; here's what I'd recommend.

1. Safety first. We all need to be safe behind the wheel, sometimes from ourselves, and sometimes from others. The bottom line here is safety. Find which types of vehicles you (and the driver) like and do some research on their overall safety. Here are a couple of sites you can go to that will help: http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/safety/articles/index.html?mktcat=safestcar&kw=...
and

2. Stay away from high-profile 'attitude' cars. Let's face it, cars with attitudes, or what we used to call muscle cars, tend be used and driven that way. Not that a Dodge Neon or similar sized compact car can't be driven recklessly, but some cars just bring out the beast in us and beg to be driven fast.

3. Along the same lines, avoid high-power engines that many new drivers feel compelled to test against others.

4. But above all, regardless of what vehicle your new driver ends up with, try and instill some common sense, get them to understand that there in charge of where thousands of pounds of metal goes, and the potential life-long ramifications that can result from misuse. Oh boy, do I sound just like my Dad!

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Ron
