Tires: motorhome tires, motorhome tires, functional equivalent

Question
Hello Berry. We work on class 6, 7, & 8 trucks, truck engines & large trailer. Ever once in awhile a motor home stumbles in. See if you can find me 2 tires for the front, customer asked. Size is
275/80R22.5 after calling around I find out this is a size for motor homes, has a larger foot print, smoother ride, carries more weight, and cost just out of this world. Is there another size we can use? One of my customers is in the tire business but does not have this tire in any of the brands he carries.
Thanks
Johnny Allen

Answer
Johnny,

A 295/75R22.5 is a functional equivalent to a 275/80R22.5 except for 1)  the width is about 1/2" wider on the same rim - and that also translates to about 1/2" more dual spacing required  2)  The 275/80R22.5 can not go on a 9.00 rim and a 295/75R22.5 can not go on a 7.50 rim.

I am going to guess this is rarely a problem.
