Tires: correct tire load, tire placard, durango 4x4

Question
Hi ,I have a 1999 dodge durango 4x4 5.2. I want to put the fac spec original tires back on the truck. What would be the original size ,tire load and speed rating for the truck? Thanks Paul

Answer
Paul,

On every vehicle sold in the US, there is a sticker – commonly called the tire placard - that lists the original tire size and the proper pressure for that size.  The placard is usually located on a doorpost or in the glove box – but sometimes it is located in the trunk or on the fuel filler door.

BTW, it doesn't matter who makes the tire or what pressure is listed on the tire's sidewall, if the tire size is the same as the placard, then the pressure listed on placard is also appropriate.

I have a book that summarizes the vehicle tire placard, and it lists 2 tire sizes:  P235/75R15 108S (XL) inflated to 35 psi front / 41 psi rear, and 31X10.50R15LT inflated to 35 psi front and rear.  Please note that my book doesn't list the tire load or speed rating for the 31X10.50R15LT.

But you should find your vehicle placard because sometimes the book is wrong.
