Tires: Tire recall, dodge caravan, dot code

Question
On 3/8/2010 I had my Douglas Touring tire to blow and the impact from this damaged my fuel tank and filler. I currently cannot fuel my Dodge Caravan because of this incident and I have a costly repair bill. I want to find out if there is a recall on this tire and what plant it was manufactured at. Tire information: DOT = PLM3/DCLR 0606. Size = P215/70R15 97S. Third set of numbers that I don't know what they represent: #3314565 UPRW 309E. Any information you can get for me would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Diane,

The tire was manufactured by Goodyear, so I suggest you call them up and file a claim.  If the tire has been recalled, they will tell you so (They are required by law to tell you if you ask the question.)

Just be aware that you may have to pay for the repairs up front.  It might take longer for them to look at the tire and determine whether they think the problem was caused by their manufacturing process or was caused by some sort of road damage.  If it was caused by road damage, then they may not choose to pay for.  That process may take some time.

So you might want to file a claim with your insurance company.  This would be covered by the comprehensive part of the policy, not the collision, and a single claim will have no effect on your insurance rates.

If you do that, then it is up to the insurance company to go to Goodyear to collect for the repairs - besides, it would save you a lot of hassle.

BTW, here more informtaion on reading the DOT code:
