Tires: 1994 k1500 4wd 6ft tire pressure, liter v8, tire guides

Question
QUESTION: The plate with this info is missing. The tire size is Michelin lt265/75/16 load range "c".Thank you for any help you can give me. Max inflation on the tire is 50psi.

ANSWER: Matthew,

There were 2 different versions of K1500's produced in 1994 - and i can't tell from your description which you have.  But taking a wild guess, I'll bet the original tire size was LT245/75r16 - and the specified pressure was 50 psi.

So doing the math:  In order to carry the same load as an LT245/75R16 does at 50 psi, an LT265/75R16 needs to use 43 psi.

But you may have another problem.  The stock wheels for your truck are 6 1/2' wide.  An LT265/75R16 needs a minimum of a 7" width.

using a rim that is too narrow tends to arch the tread face and may lead to stability issues, like following the grooves and ruts in the road and sensitivity to wind - not to mention excessive wear in the center of the tread.

QUESTION: Thank you for your prompt response. My truck is a 1994 Cheyenne 4wd with the 5.0 liter v8 and 96" wheel base.Hopfuly this info can help clarify the right tire size and inflation rate.Thank you again.

Answer
Matthew,

Unfortunately, that isn't the way Tire Guides lists the tires, so that information doesn't help clarify the situation.

Nevertheless, what I posted was a conservative answer and you can trust that to be at least "safe".

BTW, be sure to note the thing about the rim width.
