Tires: Just bought two GoodYear tires, one has no date on it!, goodyear tires, 4 digits

Question
Hello, I came across this website as I began to learn how some tires are sold
as brand new, even though they might be years old.  Unfortunately, I did not
learn this yesterday, before I had Goodyear put two "new" tires on my car.  I
read your post about how to check the date on Goodyear tires, and saw that
one of the tires was made during the 44th week of 2006.  But the other
identical kind of tire, had NO digits in the final "text bubble" on the tire!
Nothing was there!  What does this mean?  Was this a manufacturing mistake,
or did someone scrape of the numbers!?  What do you think of the 2006 tire,
and can I demand anything from Goodyear about either tire?  What are my
rights?  Thank you so much!

Answer
Matthew,

The date code only needs to appear on one side, so look on the other side.

I am of the opinion that properly stored tires are good for up to three years. So a tire that was made late in 2006 would be OK.

And just so you know about the code:

DOT codes are a 10 to 12 digit number located near the letters "DOT".  BTW the digits can be numbers or letters.

The first 2 digits are a code for the manufacturing plant.

The next 2 digits are a code for the tire size.

The next 3 or 4 digits are a code for the type of tire.

The last 3 or 4 digits are the date code.  The format is week/week/year/year or week/week/year.

Starting in the year 2000, the date coding used is 4 digits.  That means the highest number you should see for the year is 08.  Before 1999 the format was 3 digits.  1999 and 2000 are transition years, so you will find both 3 and 4 digits.
