Tires: Tire Pressure, firestone tires, inflation pressure

Question
I have a 1995 Camry.  The vehicle manufacturer recommends 30 PSI for tire size P195/70R14.  I just purchased a set of new Firestone tires of that same size and the garage said they should be at 36 PSI.

WHAT PRESSURE SHOULD I USE?

Answer
Jeff,

If the vehicle manufacturer specified 30 psi, then that is what you should use if you want the car to behave like the vehicle manufacturer desired.  However, a little more inflation pressure improves the fuel economy, wet traction, snow traction, tire durability, tire wear, steering response, but increases ride harshness.  Personally I like 3 to 5 psi above the vehicle maufacturer's specification, so I think 6 psi is too high.
