Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: Motorcycle Size, suzuki dr 400, bmw 650cs

Question
First, thanks for your time.  I want to find a motorcycle to make a 10 mile commute to work.  I live in a hilly area, two-lane roads with a speed limit of 50 mph at times.  I am 6'01" and 240 lbs.  I haven't been on a motorcycle in 25 years, but will obtain the needed safety training before purchasing a motorcycle.

While trying to receive the most mpg, what is the smallest motorcycle that you would recommend in hp or cc?

Thanks,
Paul

Answer
Find yourself a used Suzuki SV650 (twin).

More generically, find a two-cylinder motorcycle 700cc or less, or a four-cylinder motorcycle 500cc or less.

If money is no object, consider a BMW 650CS (city sport) one-cylinder bike. Very tall, freaky fun.

If you're not emotionally committed to a particular style of motorcycle, the most mileage and the tallest bike combo will be in the dual sport category, such as a Suzuki DR 400 or 650.

Lots to choose from. Find one that fits your height, and you'll be a happy camper. Start small.
