Motorcycle Repair: Clutch Issues, XL 185, xl 185, friction discs

Question
Hello, first time doing this, I have a XL 185, 81 model, and my clutch is not engaging, it maxes out in the case (using a pry-bar) but yet engine is still in gear, and does not roll, i took it all apart and plates and springs look ok, NOTE;when the springs are off the pressure plate spins freely, as soon as the springs go back on and tightened down , it still has same issue, maybe you can help explain my situation, bike runs but not have drivin it yet, due to the clutch not working properly.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
Andrew, There may be  something out of place or you have worn parts. There are 5 friction discs part# 22201-GF6-000 and are about $10.30 each there are 4 metal plates Part # 22311-KN4-680 and are about $3.85 each. Also the 4 springs need to be a certain length and have a part# 22401-KTO -000 and are about $3.00 each If all the parts are lined up and the descs arent worn to thin then the springs could be weak not holding pressure. Recheck everything, also go to www.powersportspro.com and it may show you a picture of you clutch.
