Motorcycle Safety & Driveability: isle of man tt, tourist trophy, isle of man tt

Question
this question is related to motorcycling, but not safety or driveability.  it has bothered me for a long time:  what does the "TT" stand for, in the "Isle of Man, TT?"

puzzled,

Answer
ML,

Thanks for the question.

"TT" (or, correctly: T.T.) stands for "Tourist Trophy".

In England, Tourist Trophy is a fancy way of saying "race". Kind of like "Gran Prix" or "GP" in Spanish, which is where we get the "MotoGP" racing series.

If you are so inclined and are able to go see (or better yet, ride in) the Isle of Mann TT (Yes, two n's), don't hesitate. It's an amazing race and a great place. The Isle of Mann Tourist Trophy race is also often referred to (in print) as the IoM or the IoMTT.

Ride smart, have fun!
