Used Cars: WHAT IS A PATHFINDER MADE OF, noticeable damage, mechanical failure

Question
My 2007 Pathfinder LE was hit while parked by a 1989 Bonneville. My whole rear and side looked like a can opener just ripped it open. The Bonneville did not have any noticeable damage. My question is when did the car manufactures stop make real steel bodies cars and started giving us what we have now in cars  which is nothing but plastic and we are paying our lives away with these new cars. Maybe I need a good old car.

Answer
Hi Evelyn

The good news is you were not behind the wheel.

I can't pinpoint the year, but when the import market entered the North American market the technology went into high gear. Buying today  many consumers will google answers for crash test and safety features before shopping for a vehicle.

As for your comment " Maybe I need a good old car " put a smile on my face thinking back when the bumpers where made of steel, and whenever you had mechanical failure you simply waved to someone for a push, try that today and you will have a cracked bumper or your air bags will deploy.

Thanks for your question up memory lane

Ray
