Truck Repair: A/C Problems, r134, freon

Question
I have a 1993 Chevrolet 1500 that the AC compressor won't come on. I found a leak in the low pressure fitting and tighten that up. I got a can of r134 and began to add it and the compressor started coming on and off.I bought another can with a dye in it to check for any more leaks and then the compressor cut off and would not come back on. I thought maybe the high pressure switch was not allowing it to come on so I let a little of the freon back out. I then put the gauge on it and it showed that it had the right amount of freon in it. I am trying not to have to take it to a mechanic because I can't afford there high prices can you help.

Answer
it could be a lot of things if the compressor is not coming on it sounds like you don't have enough freon the pressures will seem to be right if the compressor is not running try running a hot wire to your compressor to kick it in once you get a little more freon in it hook back up and see if it works
