Truck Repair: N14 cam and crank gears, nose gear, cam gear

Question
hello. thanks for being available like this

we have an N14 with 2700 hours in  farm tractor that has broken the crank gear and  the cam gear----   keys are sheared off now but it looks like a section of gear broke out and went between the two gears to break them,, or a foreign object but we can't find it if it did, it bent pushrods to valves and pushrods to injectors------   have you seen this before?  do you know of any hidden problem that would cause this? and if we put gears and pushrods in will it have a high % chance to be OK ?

Thanks
Mike

Answer
I never heard of this problem before. The gears installed by heating the gears in an oven & letting them cool to set up.There is an old campaing kit that you might still be able to get that has the NEW camfollowers & camshaft for about the same price as the cam alone.I would really advise on putting a new camshaft & camgear in the engine. And depending on the crankshaft nose gear area on the replacing of the crankshaft.
