Vintage Cars: 64 chevy long bed C10, surface rust, fleetside

Question
QUESTION: I ran across this truck the asking price is $4000, the truck is second owned has some surface rust and cab rim on roof top, has been painted red,and stick shift has been transferred to floor. The inside of the cab color appeared to be a tan color is that original color. Truck looks and sounds good all the original lights and trim owner is trowing bumpers and flooring. what you think truck is worth.

ANSWER: Lots of things go into the value of this vehicle. How close is it to you? Are you sure it's surface rust and not perforation? V8 or 6? 3spd or 4? Fleetside or Stepside? 4x4 or 2 wheel drive?

Given your description, I would peg the value of this truck around $3500, assuming that everything mechanical is in good shape and useable as is. Depends on what your intention is.... Are you planning on using it as is? Are you going to restore it as original? Are you planning to "Resto-Mod" or make it into a Street Rod? Interestingly enough, the value of an 8ft bed truck is lower than a 6.5 foot bed - I think mostly because of the Street Rod angle.

All in all, the asking price is not totally unreasonable, but I think if you walk up to the owner with $3000 plus in cash, you should be driving home in a red '64 C-10.

Good Luck!

QUESTION: Truck is approx. 40 miles away. Rust on lower passenger door perfortated,V8 3spd,fleetside, and 2 wheel drive. My intenions are to painted and drive to and from,"luv the looks of it"

Answer
Look closely at the lower rear cab corners - they are notorious for rust. Also, check the floorboards and the lower portions of the bed.

Hey, if you like it, go for it! Still might be a bit pricey at $3500 because of the rust, and needing paint, but if it runs solid you might have a nice truck. You can get replacement door skins from various suppliers and patch panels for almost everything you need, although the 60-66 era trucks aren't as popular as those prior to 60 or later than 66.

Good luck!
