Vintage Cars: Shroud, pontiac laurentian, worst case scenario

Question
Hi Don
I found a shroud for my 64 Pontiac Laurentian 230 6 cyl.
I hope this will cure my overheating problem.
Question: I see where it bolts on to the sides of the rad.
I assume I just remove the fan. Will the fan and hub come off at the same time?
Is there a way to tell if the fan is on right so it sucks not blows? Thanks!

Answer
I think you will find when you remove the fan, that there is only one side that will be smooth enough to mate up properly with the pully.  When you remove the four bolts holding the fan, the pully should come loose at the same time, leaving just the shaft and end of the water pump where the bolts go into.  If in doubt mark the fan near the bolts with some paint or chalk to indicate which side is out.

When you start the car, just feel in front of the radiator and you can verify if the air is flowing the right direction.  Worst case scenario is you have a 15 minute job to turn it around!  :)
