How to Remove the Injector in a Chevy TBI

When General Motors first started tinkering around with fuel injection, one of the first concepts they tried was known as TBI, or Throttle Body Injection. Essentially they mounted two fuel injectors onto a carburetor and controlled it with a basic computer. This system worked fairly well, but the injectors frequently leaked and needed replacing. Fixing it is as easy as replacing an injector, but first you have to take the old one out.

Things You'll Need

  • Line wrench set
  • Pop the hood. Use your hands to spin the wing nut securing the air filter to the throttle body counterclockwise until it's off the threaded post. Lift the air filter off the engine and place it to the side.

  • Pinch the wiring connector to the fuel injector in the center of the throttle body and lift it off the injector.

  • Remove the fuel line on the injector using a line wrench. Then remove the injector using a line wrench and lift it out of the throttle body.
