How to Fix 2000 Chevy Malibu Dash Lights

The 2000 Chevrolet Malibu is part of the fifth generation of Malibus, a model that has been around since 1964. The Malibu is a mid-size vehicle known for being both practical and stylish. As with any car, things can occasionally go wrong with it. Flickering or burnt out dash lights can be both annoying and potentially dangerous. They should be repaired as soon as possible.

Things You'll Need

  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Replacement fuse
  • Replacement bulb
  • Find the dial that controls the level of brightness for your dash lights. Turn the brightness all the way down and then all the way up. If no change is apparent, then you need to check the fuse. The fuse box is on the left edge of the dash console, flush against the driver's side door. You can only access it when the door is open.

  • Locate the fuse that powers the dashboard lights. Remove and replace it with a new fuse.

  • Test the brightness dial again. It should function properly now, without any flickering or dimming. If it does not, then the bulb may be burnt out.

  • Remove the screws holding the dashboard panel in place with a Phillips head screwdriver. Gently pull the panel out far enough to expose the burnt-out bulb. Remove the bulb and replace it with a new one. Replace the panel and screws.
