How to Change Headlights on a 2001 Chrysler Sebring

There are many things that fail on a car that require a novice mechanic to run off to his local repair shop to have repaired, but replacing headlight bulbs on your 2001 Chrysler Sebring is certainly not one of the tasks that require the sure hand of an ace mechanic. You can save yourself a little money by installing those new headlight bulbs yourself. When installing the bulb, use care not to touch the glass part of it, as the oils on your hands can cause the bulb to burn out earlier than it should.

Things You'll Need

  • Ratchet
  • Socket set
  • No. 9007 headlight bulb
  • Open the hood and remove the bolt securing the horn to the radiator support beam, if you are replacing the driver-side headlight bulb. Pull the horn off of the support beam to gain access to the driver-side bulb. On the passenger side, there is nothing obstructing access to the headlight bulbs.

  • Twist the bulb counterclockwise to unlock it, then pull the headlight bulb and wiring harness from the headlight assembly. Pry upward on the locking tab on the headlight bulb wiring harness with a flat-head screwdriver, then unplug the harness from the bulb.

  • Hold the new No. 9007 headlight bulb by its plastic base and plug the harness into the new headlight bulb. Line up and headlight bulb with its opening in the headlight assembly and guide the headlight bulb into the assembly. Twist the headlight bulb clockwise to lock it in place.

  • Headlight bulbs generally have a similar service life, so it's best to replace them both.

  • Reinstall the horn onto the radiator support beam, if applicable, and snug its retaining bolt with a ratchet and socket. Close the hood.
