How Do I Fix a Honda Radio Backlight?

The radio on most Honda vehicles is lit by a few bulbs behind the radio. So if the bulbs burn out, the radio will light up. Thankfully, replacing these bulbs is fairly simple and should only take 15 minutes to complete. Most Honda vehicles use 1157 type bulbs for their radios, but you should consult your vehicle's owner's guide to make sure.

Things You'll Need

  • Slotted screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Replacement bulb
  • Turn off the engine of your Honda vehicle and remove the keys.

  • Pry off the trim panel around the radio with a slotted screwdriver. Some Honda vehicles have a few screws securing the trim panel. Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver and then remove the trim panel.

  • Remove the four screws securing the radio to the vehicle. Pull the radio out toward you and disconnect its wiring electrical connector.

  • Pull out the radio and reach behind it to remove the bulbs. Pull the bulbs straight out to remove them and install new bulbs by pushing them into the back of the radio.

  • Reconnect the wiring electrical connector to the radio and place it back into the vehicle.

  • Reinstall the four screws to secure the radio. Reattach the trim panel and its screws if necessary.
