Many Silverado owners debadge their trucks after attempting to wax or polish the surface, only to find that the residue from the wax has built up around the badges on the truck. These trucks have Chevrolet badges and Silverado badges on both sides and the tailgate. The word Silverado is spread out and each letter is a separate badge. With a few tools and a couple hours of time and you can debadge a Silverado.
Use a plastic credit card or a length of dental tape 12 inches long to slide behind each badge. If using a card, slide it straight behind the badge without angling it towards the painted surface of the truck. The card can cause light scratches in the paint. Push the card between the badge and the surface until it separates the badge from the truck. If using dental tape, hold the ends of the tape with both hands, place the middle of the length on top of the badge between the badge and surface of the Silverado. Pull down on the tape with each hand until the tape cuts through the glue and the badge is removed. Do this for each badge on the Silverado.
Heat the remaining glue using a heat gun or blow dryer. Use caution with these tools as they get extremely hot. Hold the heat directly over the glue, about 6 inches from the surface, for short periods of time. This is to prevent the heat source from damaging the paint. Once the surface is cool enough to touch with your hand, at two minutes after removing the heat source, rub the glue with your hands. The glue will begin to come off of the surface as you rub back and forth.
Pour an oil-based solvent or cleaner onto a cotton towel. Wipe the solvent on any remaining glue until the glue is no longer visible.
Wash the Silverado with car wash soap and a soft sponge to wash away any residue from the solvent. Remove all of the glue before washing because car wash soap will not remove the glue. The cool water will set the glue and make it difficult to remove.
