The 2004 Honda Odyssey marked the last year for the production of the second generation designs. This generation features a 3.5 liter, V6 engine and either an automatic or standard transmission. The front wheel bearings connect the drive shaft to the wheel. The wheel bearings reside in a race inside the wheel bearing hub assembly. Although you need a hydraulic press to remove the old ones and put the new in, you can get a mechanic to do that one part for you. The rest of the process should take about an hour.
Pry off the dust cover on the center of the front wheel that has the faulty wheel bearings with your chisel and mallet.
Pull the cotter pin out of the drive shaft with your needle-nose pliers. Lift off the washer below it with your hands. Loosen and remove the large, central spindle nut with your 36 mm deep socket, 1/2 inch ratchet, and extension bars. Doing this now utilizes the weight of the Odyssey as leverage.
Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel. Raise the Odyssey with the car jack near the wheel. Slide the jack stand below the chassis. Raise it to meet the Odyssey body and give it support. Finish removing the lug nuts. Pull off the wheel.
Loosen and remove the two 15mm securing the brake caliper bracket to the rotor. Hang the bracket by a cord from the suspension coil.
Pull off the rotor by hand.
Tap in the drive shaft with your chisel and mallet to disengage it from the wheel bearing hub. Remove the 15mm tie rod bolt.
Remove the two 15mm strut bolts. Remove the lower support arm bolt. Pry the lower support arm away from the steering knuckle. Pull the steering knuckle loose from the drive shaft.
Take the steering knuckle with the wheel bearing hub attached and the new wheel bearing race to a professional mechanic. Have the mechanic hydraulically press the old race out of the hub and the new race into it.
Reattach the steering knuckle to the top strut with the two bolts removed earlier. Grease the drive shaft. Insert it into the wheel bearing hub. Reattach the lower support arm and the tie rod.
Replace the rotor. Replace the brake caliper bracket. Replace the wheel. Lower the Odyssey to the ground.
