Wipers on the Chevy Venture Won't Park

The Chevrolet Venture van was produced between 1997 and 2005. It is equipped with a 3.4-liter, V-6 engine, seats seven or eight passengers and comes in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations. The wiper system is comprised of a motor attached to wiper arms by a crank arm, a multi-function switch and various electrical connections. If the wipers don't park, it usually indicates a malfunction in the electrical system.

Things You'll Need

  • Multimeter
  • Screwdriver set
  • Trim removal tool

Multi-Function Switch

  • Test the wipers on your Chevy Venture van by turning them on and then off while the wiper blades are in mid-sweep. If the blades stop in the middle of windshield instead of returning to the base of the window, they are failing to park.

  • Remove the driver's knee bolster. Remove the screws holding it in place and pry it loose with a trim removal tool. Remove the lower steering column cover by removing its screws and prying it loose.

  • Loosen the screw in the steering column bulkhead connector with a screwdriver. Disconnect the multi-function switch electrical harness. If the wipers park with the switch disconnected, the switch has failed and must be replaced. If the wipers do not park, inspect the wiring from the switch to the wiper motor and check for shorts. Repair any short circuits by wrapping the short with electrical tape or replacing the section of wiring with new wiring.
