How to Take the Fan Off the Ford Econoline E-150 Van

The Econoline F-150 van uses a belt driven radiator fan. The drive belt in the van is run by the crankshaft pulley. It in turn runs the alternator, power steering pump and the radiator fan belt all at the same time. This makes the task of getting the radiator fan out of the engine bay slightly more labor intensive.

Things You'll Need

  • Pliers
  • Drain pan
  • Socket set
  • Use a pair of pliers to remove the band clamp that secures the upper radiator hose to the back of the radiator. Pull the radiator hose off the radiator. Position a drain pan to capture the small amount of fluid that will drain from the hose.

  • Loosen the alternator through bolt located on the top of the alternator. Use a socket and ratchet. Use a the socket and ratchet to loosen the alternator pivot bolt located on the bottom of the alternator. Push down on the alternator to loosen tension on the drive belt.

  • Pull the drive belt off the radiator fan pulley.

  • Remove the four bolts that secure the radiator fan shroud to the back of the radiator by using a socket and ratchet. The fan and shroud will come out as one unit.

  • Pull the fan and shroud upward and out of the engine bay.
