How to Clean a White Cargo Trailer

Cargo trailers get dirty as you use them for business or pleasure. White trailers can appear especially dirty, exposing black scuffs and mud from transporting cars or other large goods. Cleaning a white cargo trailer can be done within a day to provide a clean platform for future use, and prevent any dirt from transferring to other materials in transport. Many quality cleaning products are available that quickly cut through grime and mud, to reveal a clean, bright, white cargo trailer.

Things You'll Need

  • Aluminum cleaning agent
  • Citrus cleaning agent
  • Power hose
  • Move your trailer to a large, open space where you can power soak the whole trailer with a hose. Start at one end, if the trailer is elevated, start at the higher end, and spray towards the lower end, moving dirt and mud off the trailer with the help of gravity.

  • Allow the trailer to dry in the sun. Once dry, apply an environmentally friendly cleanser, such as Purple Power Citrus Cleaner or RCHD Heavy Duty Citrus Based Degreaser. These do not carry risks if you get some on your skin, and they do not have a lingering environmental footprint.

  • Add water to dilute the cleaning agent, as directed on the label, and place the liquid in a squirt bottle. Apply liberal amounts of the cleansing spray to the trailer, specifically on the areas that need attention. Let the solution sit on the trailer for 10 to 15 minutes, them begin to scrub the surface of the trailer with a stiff brush or sponge. If you have black streaks, use an aluminum cleansing product, such as AlumKlean, and scrub the scuffs with a stiff bristled brush.

  • Scrub the whole of the trailer from top to bottom, then rinse the trailer with a power hose, starting at the end, working down to the front opening. After all the cleanser suds are gone, allow the trailer to sit in the sun and dry overnight.
