How to Take the Door Panel Off a Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry has been one of the most popular cars in the country for several years. Hundreds of thousands of them are on the road, including older models. Upgrading these older models to add alarm systems, new stereos complete with door speakers or power door locks will require you to remove the door panel. The door panels on a Toyota Camry are fairly simple to remove with only a few tools.

Things You'll Need

  • Philips screwdriver
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Door panel removal tool
  • Small container
  • Roll the window down and open the door as wide as possible. Use a flat-head screwdriver to gently pry the plastic triangle-shaped panel off that is near the sideview mirror.

  • Pull the interior door handle back to access a small plastic circular cap. Pop this cap out with a flat-head screwdriver and use a Philips screwdriver to remove the screw behind it. Remove another plastic cap located on the armrest and remove the screw hidden behind it. Remove one last plastic cap and screw near the front of the door. Locate and remove the two screws under the armrest and the two screws near the very bottom of the door panel.

  • Remove the plastic housing from around the door handle by gently prying it off with a flat-head screwdriver. Insert the door panel removal tool between the door panel and the door. Use it to move along the outer edges of the panel and pry it up to pop the six plastic clips off the door.

  • Lift the door panel up and away from the car. Unhook the top of the panel from the top of the door by tilting the bottom of the panel up towards the window. Reach behind the panel and unplug the wiring harness connection between the window controls and the door.
