2006 Toyota Corolla Front Rotor Removal

The front brake rotors on a 2006 Toyota Corolla will eventually become scratched and scored. Worn rotors may even begin to cause your wheels to shake and shimmy when you stop the car. To service rotors yourself, you will need to remove them and take them to an auto mechanic or machine shop. The technician will tell you if your rotors are thick enough to be resurfaced. If they are too thin, you will need to buy new replacement rotors.

Things You'll Need

  • Wheel chocks
  • Car jack
  • Screwdriver
  • Lug wrench
  • Socket wrench set
  • Pliers
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Park the Corolla on level ground. Engage the parking brake. Secure the rear wheels of the car with wheel chocks.

  • Begin jacking up one of the front wheels with a car jack, but do not lift the wheel off the ground. Pry off the hubcap with a screwdriver. Turn each lug nut ½ turn counterclockwise with a lug wrench. Jack the wheel completely off the ground. Remove all lug nuts by turning counterclockwise. Remove the wheel.

  • Locate the two mounting bolts for the brake caliper (behind the assembly). Remove the bolts with a socket wrench. Position the brake caliper out of the way, or carefully allow it to hang by the brake line.

  • Remove the two brake pads (in front of and behind the rotor) with your fingers. Locate the two brake assembly mounting bolts (behind the brake mount). Remove the bolts with a socket wrench. Remove the brake mount.

  • Straighten the cotter pin on the end of the axle with a screwdriver and pliers. Remove the cotter pin with pliers. Remove the wheel bearing grease seal by pulling it off with your fingers. Remove the axle nut by turning counterclockwise with a socket wrench or adjustable wrench. Slide the rotor and wheel bearings off of the axle by pulling straight off the axle.

  • Repeat all steps with the other front rotor.
