How to Take Off Old Wiper Blades

You should check your car's wiper blades every six months to avoid problems when it rains. To determine if your wipers need changing, note if they appear torn, ragged or cracked. In most windshield wipers, an electric motor connects to the wiper arm and holds it firmly in place. The wiper blade itself is the device that holds the rubber insert.

  • Lift the wiper blades so that they are in an upright position.

  • Press the tab at the base of the wiper to disengage the blade from the wiper arm. Discard the old wiper blade.

  • Slide the new blade onto the arm or attach it with the adapter that came with it while keeping the arm upright. Push the new blade in until it clicks into position. Gently set the arm against the windshield.
