Fuse Box Instructions for a Chevy Blazer

A fuse contains a thin metal bridge between two terminals. When too much electrical current is drawn through the fuse the bridge melts, breaking the circuit. This feature prevents damage to electrical components and limits the possibility of a fire. The Chevrolet Blazer utilizes small fuses to protect the vehicle's wiring harness from overload. These are typically plug-in blades, not the glass-barrel fuses used in older vehicles.

Location

  • The fuse panel on a Chevy Blazer is located on the driver's side of the firewall beneath the dashboard. Some later models may be equipped with a fuse panel cover. To remove the cover, pull the retaining clips loose on each side and lift the cover from the panel.

Replacing a Fuse

  • Locate the fuse you believe is burned out by its label or use the owner's manual as a guide. To remove the fuse, you may need needle-nose pliers; don't put too much pressure on the fuse or you could crack the casing. Examine the thin metal strip between the two terminals. If it is broken, scorched or deformed, it must be replaced.

Fuse Amp Rating

  • Automotive fuses are color-coded and numbered to signify how many amps they can handle. Most of a Blazer's circuits are between 5 and 40 amps. When you are replacing a fuse, always use one with the same amp rating and color coding. Placing a lower-rated fuse in the circuit could cause it to blow once current is applied. Using a higher-rated fuse could damage the circuit or cause a fire.
