The crankshaft pulley bolt on a Honda Accord holds the harmonic balancer in place. The balancer is a pulley that absorbs the resonance from the engine and prevents the crankshaft from failing (snapping into two pieces) while the engine is running. Because of the resonance constantly being muted by the balancer, the crankshaft pulley bolt tends to get stuck on the crankshaft pulley. In order to remove it, you'll need a special tool that is available from Honda, as well as an impact wrench and air compressor capable of generating 900 lb-ft. of torque.
Place the crankshaft pulley removal tool over the end of the crankshaft pulley bolt. This removal tool holds the pulley (also called the harmonic balancer) in place while you turn the bolt that holds it to the crankshaft. You'll need to orient the tool so that the socket end of the tool fits over the head of the bolt. The two "arms" on the tool will grab the pulley and prevent it from turning.
Turn on the air compressor and set the PSI accordingly. The PSI is not as much of a concern as the ability of the impact wrench to deliver the required torque. You will need anywhere between 600 - 900 lb-ft. of torque to remove this bolt. Your wrench needs to be able to generate this much force.
Attach the hose on the air compressor to the air inlet and locking mechanism on the handle of the impact wrench. Verify that the impact wrench is set to turn counterclockwise. If your wrench is not set properly, delivering the high output torque required to remove the pulley bolt could cause catastrophic bolt head failure (snapping the bolt head off the bolt).
Spray the bolt head and surrounding area with penetrating oil. The penetrating oil is designed to work its way behind the bolt head and down into the threads of the bolt to help loosen the corrosion and rust that have built up on your Odyssey's crankshaft pulley bolt.
Put the socket end of the wrench over the end of the pulley bolt and press the trigger on the wrench. Work the bolt off the pulley. You may need to apply penetrating oil several times to the bolt head and surrounding areas before the pulley bolt will come loose.
