How to Open a Nissan Murano Gas Cap

From time to time, Nissan Murano owners report a problem with opening their gas cap. The gas cap has a sensor inside that can go bad. While the problem is fixable, not being able to get gas into the car can pose a serious problem. Fortunately, there is a temporary solution.

Things You'll Need

  • Nissan Murano with a stuck gas cap
  • Adjustable wrench
  • Take any items out of the trunk, making room to lift the spare tire cover. There is a hook inside the hatch to which the cover can be tethered in order to keep it out of the way.

  • Remove the small bin cover on the back left side. Below you will see a box with two bolts securing it in place.

  • Remove the bolts with the wrench. Maneuver the box out of its resting place.

  • Locate a fabric panel inside. Pull it far enough away from the side of the car so that you can slip your hand behind the panel with ease.

  • Look for a white arm protruding from where the fender is. Pull the arm and the gas cap will open.
